LCD are not prone to the problems that Plasma sets are and do not require as work to maintain in optimal conditions. However, the quality of the Tv is very dependent on the model in question. Some of these sets can easily rival the image quality of a Plasma screen while others have suffer from unwanted artifacts in their image. In general, most LCDs made by the big brands are of high quality. So as a general rule stick with the known brands if you decide to buy one of them.
The other leading technology is know as DLP. There are two types of DLP technologies one uses one micro chip and the other uses three. Usually DLP is used to manufacture rear projectors and are of great value of the money to those that are interested in purchasing an huge screen. The do not have the image quality of the other two technologies though.
