Finding a Exercise Programs

Posted by admin - April 30th, 2009

Exercise programs can be broken down into two categories and depending on the results you want you can concentrate on one type or use a combination of both.

The first type is stretch. If you have mobility problems, muscle cramps, or need to get rid of stress dynamic or static stretches can help with even short exercise programs of only 20 or 30 minutes a day. Static involves stretching the muscles while the body is otherwise still and holding a motion for a few dozen seconds. Dynamic stretching means using momentum to push the muscle through a range of motions. Good examples of both kinds of stretching can be seen in Yoga and Tai Chi. If expense is an issue classes in these centuries old exercises are often available through local community associations.

If you need to lose weight and especially if you have some tubbiness around the middle then we need to go there and say what you no doubt wish to avoid. Those dreaded words…strenuous exercise. This means an aerobic type exercise program of at least 30 minutes or longer. Check with a doctor first because ’strenuous’ means different things to different body types and conditions. For you a brisk walk might get the results you want, whereas for someone in better shape this might involve a well paced jog or stepping up to a treadmill.

Most people have an exercise program combining both types of exercise as the stretching warms the muscles up before beginning an aerobic routine. Whichever program you choose the most important part is staying motivated and keeping it up.

Blogs As A Marketing Tool

Posted by admin - April 30th, 2009

Blogs are the biggest things to happen to the Internet since personal home pages. Blogging software has made it easy for the average Joe to create his own blog, and the thriving community of bloggers have spurred designers to release completely free, and professionally looking templates.

However, other than being personal journals, blogs are a fantastic way to market your product or service. For example, you can create a blog about your company and the latest happenings, or what the management is doing. Or you could create a blog that showcases the development of your product, and the ways that it can improve someone’s daily life.

Using such inexpensive, low-maintenance technology to market your e-commerce site - without having to learn HTML or any of that gibberish - can create an awareness for your brand that conventional advertising can’t, and you can typically do it for less than $10 a month.

Either way, it is a site that your readers will appreciate for your honesty and the way that you put across your business/product/service. Typically blogs are a very casual medium, and are completely different from your usual corporate websites. Think of it as if you are conducting a conversation, and you will have a good idea of how a blog should be. Do not make the mistake of making your blog one big sales letter though! That will just create the opposite effect of what you want - turning off your readers and dismissing your blog instantly.

If you do it correctly, your blog will soon be improving your business’s reputation, and you will be getting more traffic over time. You will also have a great community of readers to bounce new product ideas or changes off. The more traffic you get to your blog, the more business you should be expecting. The thing about blogs is that they generate a lot of word-of-mouth recommendations, which are a great form of getting new customers, since they hear about you from a trusted source.

Before you begin blogging, you will have to make a choice of blogging software to use. There are paid service providers such as Blogware’s Blogtex, Expression Engine, or TypePad, which gives you everything from the software to the hosting service. Alternatively, you can also use free blog software such as or WordPress, which is just as powerful, and install them on your own web servers.

Move Beyond Your Limitations

Posted by admin - April 25th, 2009

Limitations are often temporary barriers that block the view of one’s true potential. Barriers might be self-limiting beliefs, fears of failure or success, discouragement from the past, or simply the need to take a well-deserved rest. They could also be disguised blessings that build strength and courage.

Look Beyond Your Barriers

Refuse to allow barriers to limit your view of the possibilities available to you. To gain a wider vision, we need to consciously move beyond perceived limitations. It only takes one life and one small action to make a tremendous difference in our world.

Narrow Your Focus

Begin by naming your limit. Then focus on one small action-possibility. What would be the first step you would need to take to out distance your best? What would it require of you to move closer to that promotion, complete that project, release a fear, or continue on the journey to your fondest dream?

Step Forward

When you feel that you’ve reached your limit, stop and think. Then, step out. Lighten your load, draw a new map, or take a different path. Take one more step.

That small step could eventually change many lives for the better. You’ll find that your faith, vision, and resolve will allow you to fly higher any limitations that stand in your way!

Goal Setting: Stop Failing and Start Finishing

Posted by admin - April 24th, 2009

While the idea of goal setting is not a new concept, we do see an ever-increasing number of people becoming more and more frustrated with setting a worthwhile goal. The frustration, it appears, comes from never being able to realize the fruit of their labor. Therefore, it is with this growing number of goal setting failures that I wish to illustrate three fundamentals of proper goal setting that should significantly increase the probability of a finished goal rather than a failed one.

1. Feed “Your” Desire

Any goal that you seek to accomplish should be complementary to your desires. For instance, you may have a desire to become wealthy or debt free. Maybe your desires are in the area of health and fitness. Perhaps your desires are more family or socially oriented. In any case, your desires represent the fuel that ignites your goals in the form of passion, purpose, direction and motivation to achieve what you initially set out to accomplish. Desire is the key ingredient that most people initially fail to input before they either lose hope in accomplishing their goals or lose interest in their goals all together. Usually the people who do fall short of achieving their goals time after time do so for one main reason; their goal was not a passion or a desire that came from within. Allow me to expand on the focus of your desires to broaden your understanding of its importance in accomplishing your goals.

A desire is something that you want or feel strongly about which comes from the innermost part of who you are. It is more powerful than a wish or a passing thought. It is more than an idea of something you may feel could benefit you if you were to pursue it. A true desire represents your ambitions and direction for your life that will give you a sense of peace and fulfillment. A burning desire is a passion that not only beckons for your attention, but also consumes your every thought in one way or another. You will never be able to extinguish these desires for your life or satisfy them until you begin to pursue them. The majority of goal setters who omit this crucial element of achieving their goals ultimately fail to accomplish those goals due to a lack of purpose, direction and motivation.

Your goals should not be made from someone else’s passion or desire for you to follow. It has to come directly from you. Sure, you could get certain ideas and thoughts that are from other sources; but it must strike a chord from within your heart and mind for it to be a more than plausible and worthwhile goal to benefit you. I cannot stress enough to you the importance of setting a goal that comes from the very core of your being, which can give you a deep thirst-quenching sensation. Without a goal that can liberate your mind and boost your enthusiasm, you could quite possibly wander and drift and ultimately give up on your goals in sheer frustration like so many others have done; having not properly set a goal that came from your desires.

2. Action Statements

The next step in achieving your goals is to list a couple of action statements that support your desires as well as give you a point from which you can track your progress. Without action statements, it can be difficult to know how to get out of the starting gate. These action statements, when followed, will create a routine that will become second nature to you if you comply with them fully. Let us say that your goal is to lose ten pounds in two months. Your action sentence then could be to wake up one hour early each day and walk or jog a mile. Once you make this a routine, you could then increase your distance and/or intensity every week or so. Before you realize it, it is four months and twenty pounds or more later. Of course, jogging or walking solely will not do the job, but you should get the idea behind the action statement. The key here is to comply with whatever you have written down. Here is an example of how your goal and your action statements should look:

Goal

Spend more quality time with my family

Action statements

•Turn off the TV from 7:00pm-9:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and play a game or have group discussion.

•Have family outings on the first and third Saturdays of each month (This does not always require spending money).

•Have dinner and family time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

It is important for you, however, to avoid trying to do too much in the initial phase of your goals. This is especially the case when it involves others. Taking on too many tasks early on can certainly discourage you from completing your goal. Instead, you should take small steps initially and increase the time and frequency as you become more comfortable with the change. The key word in this step is habit. A habit is something that becomes second nature to you and usually requires little or no effort or thought. Once the habit is firmly established, you can increase the throttle a bit and move further along in achieving your goal.

3. Positive Affirmations

A positive affirmation is a very powerful and influential tool in helping you realize the achievement of your goals. Whenever you speak an affirmation aloud and to yourself, it triggers your brain in a manner that forces it to comply with your command or belief. Let us look at this in another way.

Have you ever heard that telling someone he or she is dumb enough times, that person will begin to believe it? Well, it happens to be true. This is especially true when it comes from parents affirming this to their children. By repeatedly telling yourself something enough times, it will most certainly have an impact on your behavior and attitude. Aristotle, the Greek Philosopher, once said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” Did you notice the word habit again? Below, I have listed couple of positive affirmations that you can repeat to yourself on a daily basis to complement certain goals. However, these are simply examples. Any affirmations that you use should be tailored to meet your individual needs and requirements in order to be effective.

Health and Fitness goal

AffirmationI look and feel great at xxx pounds.

I am energetic and in good physical condition.

Family goal

AffirmationI love my spouse unconditionally

My children are bright and talented

My family is strong and close knit

Whenever you use positive affirmations, make them now affirmations. If you tell yourself you are going to be or would like to be…, your brain receives it as something which has not yet occurred and will place your affirmation somewhere in its archives. However, if you use a positive now affirmation, your brain will begin to work on your behalf in making your affirmations a reality. I can understand that to some this may sound funny or fictitious, but the results can be profound when properly applied. I have seen it work in my life, my family’s life and the lives of others who were completely sold out on the idea of achieving their goals.

It is my hope that this has been of some use to you. Now is the time to stop failing and start finishing in your pursuit of peace and fulfillment for your life. I hope you would agree that you deserve it.

iPod Wireless Speakers and Headphones

Posted by admin - April 23rd, 2009

The iPod seems to have induced a certain trend in the consumer electronics industry as many companies on the market rushed to manufacture accessories for the little device that allows you to take music with you wherever you go. Speakers and headphones were among the first choices as iPod accessories for consumer electronics companies. The next step was wireless speakers and headphones to allow more freedom of movement. We’ll try to discuss the pros and cons of wireless peripherals for the iPod as well as the models that each wireless component works with.

Logitech

Logitech began marketing in 2005 a wireless headphone unit that works with any model of iPod that has a dock connector on the base. This feature is standard on all new models and is available on older models as well. The headphones use Bluetooth technology to connect to the iPod through an adapter that transmits the signal. They come with rechargeable batteries that supposedly can play up to eight hours of music per charge.

The wireless headset is very light and weighs only 3.2 ounces, with the adapter unit weighing less than an ounce. iPod controls are provided on one of the earpieces, so there is no need to return to the iPod to adjust the volume or move through the play list. The iPod can be left sitting on a counter or on a desk, and the headphones will pick up the signal for up to 30 feet away.

Logitech also markets a wireless music receiver and transmitter that turns your current stereo into a receiver and set of speakers for your iPod. It comes with its own rechargeable batteries so it doesn’t drain your iPod. The receiver unit simply plugs into your stereo system and the transmitter onto your iPod. The system works with any iPod or MP3 player with a standard 3.5mm headphone output.

The benefit of this system is that you can use it to make your existing speakers wireless without having to purchase additional equipment. It is easy to plug in and use so you can easily move to other rooms in the house. The only drawback is the 30-feet distance restriction between the receiver and the transmitter.

Macally

Macally designed a Bluetooth based BlueWave iPod headset that connects to the iPod through a transmitter plugged into the iPod’s headphone port. One issue with the BlueWave system is that the transmitter unit doesn’t use the iPod’s connector for power but two non-rechargeable AAA batteries. Another issue would be the plastic notch situated by the headphone jack that prevents the transmitter from wobbling on the iPod’s top and which you will need to remove if you own an iPod shuffle or a first or second generation iPod.

The signal’s range should be around 30 feet but it varies greatly depending on the environment you are in, especially if doors or walls stand in the way. The headphones can provide up to eight hours of interrupted music depending on volume level and other factors. They are also powered by two non-rechargeable AAA batteries.

With the BlueWave system you can also wirelessly stream music from your iPod by connecting the headphones to the home speaker system with a RCA patch cable that fits in the line-out jack from the headphones.

Oregon Scientific

Oregon Scientific released in 2005 a very interesting wireless speaker system designed for the iPod, the iBall. The speaker is shaped like a bowling ball and it connects to a transmitter dock, that holds the iPod, through 2.4 Ghz wireless technology, with adaptive frequency hopping spread spectrum. The signal range should be up to 100 feet and the rechargeable batteries provide up to 8 hours of music on a single charge. It is compatible with iPods, iPod photos, iPod nanos, and iPod minis.

The iBall has a built-in remote for the iPod which you can use even if the iPod is not in the room. The speaker has a round LCD display that you can use to change volume and skip tracks, find out the time, wireless signal strength, battery power, play/pause status.

Wi-Gear

The iMuffs from Wi-Gear are wireless headphones made especially for the iPod but with a twist. They use Bluetooth technology to connect wirelessly to both your iPod and your Bluetooth enabled phone, so you can use them as a wireless headset for the cell phone. When you receive a call, the iMuffs pause the music on the iPod, ring in the headphones and allow you to speak in the integrated microphone.

The iMuffs system has a small receiver that hooks on top of the iPod and comes with a rechargeable battery that provides up to 12 hours of interrupted music. As expected with Bluetooth, the iMuffs headphones can pick up the signal in the 30 feet signal range. They also feature iPod controls on each earpiece for pause, volume, skip and search.

In the future, the market of wireless headphones and speakers for the iPod will become a bigger share of the overall iPod accessories market, as the signal range will increase, the audio output quality will get better and the batteries the manufacturers use for power will allow more hours of playtime.

It Begins Like This

Posted by admin - April 19th, 2009

Jonathan was drunk multiple times before ever completing elementary school; his father fed him bourbon so Jonathan would resist less while being sexually molested. On the night his mother was released from jail, Jonathan rode eagerly by his father’s side to pick her up. Pulling off at a rest stop, his father convinced Jonathan to stay in the car while he went inside to make a phone call.

He never returned. Jonathan was 8 years old.

Are we less human because we ignore statistics that tell us 80% of child abuse perpetrators are parents? Of course not — but convinced that personally, one person cannot change this, it makes us all the more determined to give our kids a secure, loving family life… a life that teaches them the benefits of unconditional giving and sharing.

There was a time when New York City’s Catholic Church claimed, “The poor belong to us”. But over the years, these downtown parishes with only meager means for assisting the poor, aggravated the already existing imbalance between Catholic needs and Catholic resources. Attention soon turned to the wealthy to share this burden.

Philanthropists come from long-established families of wealth in which donating to charity is an accepted responsibility, and in 1986 Sallie Bingham wrote: “Most rich women are invisible; we are the faces that appear behind well-known men, floating up to the surface infrequently, palely; the big contributors, often anonymous, to approved charities, or the organizers of fundraising events.”

Some time ago I was a foster parent and I am still a step-parent. So I must take for granted without visual proof the horror stories that seem to shadow these roles. It’s shameful to read that one out of three homeless adults is a former foster-care child. I want to object, to criticize the research as based on faulty facts - but no doubt they’d show me otherwise.

Instead, I turned my indignation into a course of action each one of us can adopt. What hits your soft spot? Abused children, minority education, battered women, drug rehabilitation, food banks, homeless or lost children, seeing-eye dogs, free clinics, organ donors, habitat, teen runaways — there are numerous tragedies to choose from. Not any have to interrupt your family life as you do one small part to make a difference.

Certainly like most, my income never stretches as far as I could hope for. There is always so much more that I could do — if only! So I made an open-minded search for my answer and came up with a miracle. This would give me plenty of funds and actually went beyond what most people can even dream about. Be assured, it is very real and it can be yours too if you decide to embrace the spirit of caring and sharing.
